16 years for HIV rapist

An HIV-positive man who bound, raped and
tortured a woman for hours was sentenced
yesterday to 16 years in prison.
Gregory George Brooks, 51, admits he clobbered

the woman with a hammer, sliced her with a knife,
cuffed her, wrapped her in duct tape and exposed
her to the deadly virus during the six-to-eight-hour
ordeal on Oct. 6, 2004.

Brooks was silent throughout the proceedings,
his emotions hidden by the spit mask he wore at
his own request. He is in poor health, suffering
from cirrhosis of the liver and hepatitis C, as well
as HIV.
His victim, who was 35 at the time of the attack,

remained outside the courtroom and chose
not to address her captor.

Brooks will receive 2 1/2 years' credit for time
already served and, should he live that long,
will be eligible for parole in eight years.
