TEEN WEIGHT ISSUES!

Weight issues plague our teens today. They are teased
and harassed because they do not fit in with the average
teen. Many teens become self-conscious in regards to
their weight and looks.
Often overweight young teenagers have been heavy

since childhood. They have cooped with this problem
by staying home and reacting to their moods and anger
towards their peers by eating more. While this does not
solve the problem, some teens go to more extremes.
They begin to abuse their bodies resulting in anorexia,
bulimic disorders and even self-mutilation.
It is important to know that not only weight conscious
teens develop these disorders.

Many cope with the teasing by staying way from

social events like dances, athletics, group gatherings or
parties. While some people are just big-boned, others are
heavy because they do not eat properly and rarely
exercise.
Eating and exercising regularly is the best aim in the long
term. People who exercise and eat properly will eventually
reach a healthy body shape through the ups and downs
of the teenage years. It is important to spend time
exercising. Many teens are afraid for others, to see them
trying to lose weight. It’s a little like hiring a cleaner into
your home and cleaning up before she gets there.
You can do exercises at home, in the privacy of your room.
Remember to grab healthy stuff like apples, Pears, oranges
or munch on celery stalks when you get that depressive
hungry feeling.

Getting out and walking to the nearby library is exercise.
Doing housework or rearranging your room exerts energy
and uses up calories. Start projects that don’t involve
sitting down. You will be amazed by how you think less
of eating when involved in a project. Most importantly
drink lots of water and downsize your plate size at
mealtimes.
Eating Three to five small meals is important to ensure your
body does not begin storing fat. Concentrate on feeling
healthy and your weight will re-adjust itself.

The teenage years are filled with serious worries of many
topics as they develop into young adult years. These
thoughts, feelings and concerns can be quite frightening,
and many young people may be afraid to discuss these
with others. Solving these problems by talking about them
and sharing these concerns is often the first step to
learning to accept for who and what we are.
If you have any concerns about your body or health, talk

to your doctor, a dietitian or a young person's health
service. Ask your parents to make an appointment.
Remember your doctor respects your privacy.

GOOD LUCK on your Healty Changes!
