Anorexia- An Eating Disorder!

What Is Anorexia?
Anorexia is one of the many eating
disorders.
Anorexia usually begins in young people around
the onset of puberty. These individuals begin
to stave themselves and suffer from extreme
weigh loss. The weight loss continues until they
are below what they should be weighing as per their
height and age. The individual still looks in the mirror
and thinks they are overweight. They do not see the
sagging shin, the unhealthy glow or the dark circles
around their eyes.
The Weight loss is obtained by many ways. Some of
the common techniques used are excessive
exercising, an intake of laxatives and a cooking frenzy
where they cook up meals and do not eat them.
This last method is to let you believe they are eating.
When parents or friends finally
discover what is
happening many victims are extremely thin, are
very ill or near death. Family members that have an
Eating Disorder need a lot of support.
Be prepared for denial, resistance, and even anger.
Only a doctor and/or a counselor can help them
battle their eating disorder at this stage.
Do not trust them to help themselves. Do not help them
yourselves. It is beyond your control.
Symptoms of anorexia:
Loss of menstrual periods
(in women).
Never seeing them eat in front of
you.
Anxiety, weakness, brittle skin,
shortness of breath,
obsessiveness about calorie intake and exercising.
Medical issues
Anorexia causes shrunken bones,
mineral loss, low
body temperature, irregular heartbeat, permanent
failure of normal growth, development of
osteoporosis and bulimia nervosa.
The Continued use of laxatives
wears out the bowel
muscle and causes it to decrease in function.
Great news!

Anorexia can be overcome.
