Serial pedophile Peter Whitmore has reportedly written a request to prison officials that he be chemically castrated to help control his urges.

Whitmore pled guilty last Monday to 15 charges arising from events that began in July 2006 involving two boys.

The charges included three counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm, one kidnapping charge, one charge of abduction of a person under the age of 14 and one charge of unlawful confinement.

Now, after being sentenced to life in prison with the chance of parole in seven years, the Winnipeg Free Press is reporting that Whitmore has made the request for the procedure.

Chemical castration involves ingesting a cocktail of hormonal drugs that over time permanently eliminate a person's sex drive.

Whitmore's consent is necessary as Canadian criminals can't be ordered to have the treatment.

He had agreed to be chemically castrated back in 2005 following his release from jail.

But the procedure was never done because officials couldn't find a doctor who would accept Whitmore as a patient.

Whitmore's lawyer Dan Brodsky told the newspaper that hopefully his client has an easier time getting the procedure done this time.

The Crown offered Whitmore the recent plea deal to spare his latest victims from testifying.

It also spares Whitmore the dangerous offender designation, something reserved for those who have proven incapable of controlling violent or sexual impulses.

Whitmore's history

Whitmore was arrested last August after an exhaustive manhunt and 10-hour standoff at an abandoned farmhouse in Saskatchewan.

Both of the boys involved were returned safely to their families. But not long after Whitmore was arrested, the Crown said it would seek dangerous offender status.

Whitmore, who has been described by justice officials as someone who cannot be rehabilitated, has never been sentenced to more than six years before this.

In 1993, Whitmore served 16 months behind bars after an Ontario conviction for abduction and sexual offences involving four boys.

Just over a week after his release, he took an eight-year-old girl from Guelph, Ont., to Toronto and was sentenced to another 56 months in jail for the offences involving the girl.

He told CTV's Canada AM in October 2000, "I have control over what I do, and I'm not concerned I'm going to re-offend."
