Kamila Telendibaeva, wife of Huseyin Celil, a Canadian
citizen serving a life sentence in China, holds a news
conference on behalf of her husband yesterday in Ottawa.
Canada has no right to interfere in the case of a
Canadian Muslim activist sentenced this month to life in
prison in China for alleged terror links, China’s Foreign
Ministry said yesterday.
Huseyin Celil, whose wife and four children live in
Burlington, was convicted of the crimes of "separating China"
and "organizing, leading and participating in terrorist groups, organizations."
Canada has been lobbying for his release and the dispute
is expected to come up when Foreign Minister
Peter MacKay visits China, April 29 to May 1.
"We believe the case is China’s internal affair and in essence
relates to anti-terrorism," said Chinese Foreign Ministry
spokesman Liu Jianchao at a news briefing. "It has no
connection with Canada. We hope the Canadian side will
not interfere with China’s internal affairs under this pretext."
Celil’s wife, Kamila Telendibaeva, is asking the federal
government to do more to free him. She is urging
Peter MacKay to raise her husband’s case when he visits
China. Celil was arrested in 1994 and tortured, but
escaped from prison in 2000 and fled to Uzbekistan
and Turkey before reaching Canada, where he was
given citizenship.
Please explain to me how someone with a prison record
and an escapee entered canada and got citenzenship?
CHINA IS WITHIN ITS RIGHTS to ask Canada told not

If this man is a terrorist then are the Chinese any better? The Chinese are attempting to build their military up to be able to compete with the USA in a war with Bush's blessing but no country in the world will ever have as powerful of a military as the USA no matter how much Bush and Clinton have neglected our brave troops. In a nuclear war we would lose many people in a fight with China, Russia, and Iran but they would lose all of their people. We possess weapons they only dream of having that will make nuclear weapons obsolete in the near future. That is if we do not get another democrat such as the very inexperienced Obama who only knows how to stir up a crowd by his rhetoric and lies. Ask Canada about Nafta. Hillary would be even worse than Obama. I do not like McCain on immigration but at least he is strong on defense. Set the man free you Chinese commies. America should and will soon be smart enough to cease free trade with you. That is the way you are building your military up along with the biggest espionage network in history only to be destroyed within 1 week any time you and Putin feel like a frog and jump towards the USA.
