'Dozens die' in Nigeria oil blast -Breaking News!!

BBC reporting that:-
'Dozens die' in Nigeria oil blast
Dozens of people are feared dead in an explosion at an
oil pipeline near Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos.
"Over 100 people were burnt to death and beyond
recognition following the explosion,"
Nigerian Red Cross head Abiodun Orebiyi told AFP.
Eyewitnesses in Lagos said they had seen thick black
smoke rising from a nearby area.
There has been no official confirmation of casualties
from the blast, which happened on Atlas Creek island.
There are some reports that the blast may have
been caused by people stealing oil from a pipeline -
which has led to hundreds of deaths in Nigeria in
recent years.
The BBC's Sola Odunfa in Nigeria says Atlas Creek
is a small fishing community. Some residents use
speedboats to commute from there to Lagos.
The oil pipeline serves the Atlas Cove petrol depot,
which supplies to south-western Nigeria.
Nigeria is one of the world's major oil exporters.
Militants have frequently targeted Nigeria's oil
industry in the Niger Delta, further to the east.

LAGOS, May 12 (Reuters) -
A pipeline explosion on the outskirts of Nigeria's biggest
city Lagos killed about 100 people on Friday, a
Red Cross official said.
Vandals were tapping into the pipeline to steal oil when
the blast erupted, setting fire to about 500 jerrycans
full of oil, Abiodun Orebiyi said.
"We've been able to confirm about 100 dead.
We could not discover any survivors or injured people.
We are searching for them," he said.
Police spokesman Haz Iwendi earlier said nobody had
died in the explosion of the pipeline, which is owned
by state company Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC). Iwendi later called back to say
the information had been wrong.
A dilapidated port city home to an estimated 13 million
people, Lagos has been hit before by devastating
explosions.
A blast at a munitions dump in 2002 killed more than
1,000 people.
