EDMONTON — A soldier seriously injured in a suicide
bomb attack in Afghanistan last month is now expected
to survive.
The military says Cpl. Jeffrey Bailey remains in critical
condition and in a reduced state of consciousness,
but has been moved out of intensive care.
Doctors had feared he would not survive devastating
head injuries and other complications.
Meanwhile, fellow soldier Master Cpl. Paul Franklin,
who had already lost his left leg at the knee, has had
to have his lower right leg amputated as well.
A third soldier, Pte. William Salikin, continues to
breathe on his own and show other signs of progress.
The three were injured Jan. 15 in Kandahar at the
same time Canadian diplomat Glyn Berry was killed
