Rape-Why me?

Rape is probably the only crime that the
survivor is often treated as the guilty party.
This is the reason many survivors experience
feeling of guilt and shame and do not report it.

Rape can happen to a woman at anytime
regardless of her age, physical appearance,
socio-economic status, education, lifestyle,
ethnic/racial origin, or place of residence.
NO WOMAN WANTS TO BE RAPED!
Rape is a violent, humiliating, terrorizing,
criminal.
You cannot tell someone is a rapist by looking
at them. He could be a professional, neighbor,
boyfriend, husband, family member or a stranger.
Some rapist are even women!
They way you dress does not attract a rapist.
Rape Victims are chosen as per availability and
opportunity.
Women will submit to the rapist out of
fear for their lives and will not struggle with
their assailant.
Not all rape victims are beaten.
The average rapist is married and is not sexually
deprived.
Rape is not a sex.
In Canada a woman is raped every 6 minutes.
It has been shown that 50 percent of
rapists, usually repeat their crime.
In 1983 women were allowed to charge a spouse
legally with rape for the first time.
All women do not all react the same to the crime
of rape. Some will show anger, grief and rage.
Others will go on calmly fighting the demons
daily and yet others will totally emotionally
breakdown and no longer function on a daily
basis.
Every woman has the right to say
“NO”,
no matter what her occupation.
Rape is the most under-reported crime in
Canada.
The false reporting rate is about the same
as for other crimes
Men are raped in the same kinds of situations
as women. Men are less likely than women to
talk about, or report their rape.
Rape is committed out of anger, revenge or a need
to inflict pain, or to hurt someone.
Most rapists feel a need to control and
overpower someone.
They act out their anger in a sexual way,
making themselves feel better, more powerful
and adequate in the process.
