My prayers are with the Hostages but...

Horror, prayers follow ultimatum

Family and friends were devastated last night after
kidnappers in Iraq issued a death threat against
Toronto peace activist James Loney and three
colleagues.
Videotape broadcast by Al-Jazeera television
yesterday showed Loney and fellow Canadian
Harmeet Singh Sooden eating sweets.
Another segment showed 74-year-old Briton
Norman Kember and American Tom Fox.
The broadcast was silent, but Al-Jazeera reported
a written statement accompanying the tape
threatened death for the four hostages if all
prisoners in U.S. and Iraqi detention centres
weren't released by Thursday.

"Martin Luther King used to say we shall overcome
and we shall," said Susan Moran, founder of
Toronto's Out of the Cold program for the
homeless, where Loney used to volunteer.

Prime Minister Paul Martin said last night the
threat was "a callous act of terror against
innocent people.
-it is always the innocent that they attack or
people who are there to help the downtrodden.

"Let us remember these people are in the country
on a humanitarian mission. They came to help the
Iraqi people. They are men of faith. They came to
help Iraqis rebuild their society. They came to
help build peace."
-Nice speach but we need to speak a different
language to communicate with these terrorist.

On a campaign swing through Regina,
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper said:
"I just want to convey on behalf of our party
and our supporters that our thoughts and
prayers are with the hostages and their
families during this period."
-remember these men made the choice to go
knowing full well this could happen and
their lives could be lost.

I am tired of this War and have given up the
possibility of living in peace with this side of
the world
