November 18, 2005 -- A Belize man has been busted on charges of murdering a brilliant 20-year-old college student from Brooklyn who was
robbed and beaten on a backpacking trip in Central America.
Authorities believe Agrip Ica, 19, lured pretty Brooklynite Julia Minard
away from a social gathering at a bar in Belize last Sunday, then
sexually attacked and robbed her.
Minard's body was discovered in the bushes off a highway near
the remote village of Punta Gorda. She was stripped to her underwear
and was covered in bruises on her neck, arms and legs.

A College student Julia Armstrong Minard, 20, from
Brooklyn Heights has been murdered in Belize
her scantily clad-body was found in a patch of
bushes, dressed only in her underwear, in a remote
village in the the Toledo District.
Her passport and driver's license was found in her
nearby knapsack.
The family arrived in the Central American country
Tuesday and was awaiting word from the autopsy
to determine she died.
A housekeeper at the family's home on Garden Place
Wednesday said Julia Minard's mother, Elizabeth, and
sister, Sara, were in Belize and could not be reached
for comment.
The slain student was a junior at Colorado College
in Colorado Springs. Minard had entered Belize last
Thursday through the eastern border of Guatemala.
She was traveling with a group, then went off on her
own and had befriended locals at a bar.
According to reports it appeared she was choked
and possibly sexually assaulted.
A local, Agripino Ical, 19, has been arrested and it is
not clear what prompted the slaying.
The murder is the second tragedy to befall the family in
recent years. In 2001, Minard was with her father,
Lawrence, 51, when he had a heart attack and died
while climbing Mount Rainier, near Seattle.
Minard's father was the founding editor of
Forbes Global, the international edition of
Forbes magazine.
