Arrival of Canadians awaited....

Ontario, Quebec ready for arrival of
thousands fleeing Lebanon
Provinces, Red Cross and the communities offer
everything from health care to shelter

MONTREAL, TORONTO -- They will come by
the hundreds each day and they are expected to
be exhausted and exasperated.
Local Lebanese communities and provincial
governments in Ontario and Quebec are bracing
for the massive arrival, starting this morning,
of thousands of Canadians fleeing Lebanon.
While many of those landing today already have
a home and relatives in Canada, those in need
on arrival in Montreal will be taken by shuttle
bus to a reception centre at a local airport hotel.
There, they will be given food, beverages and
lodging for up to three days, officials said.
Similar arrangements will be made available
by the Canadian Red Cross to those landing in
Ottawa with Prime Minister Stephen Harper's
plane.

In addition to trying to meet the immediate
physical and psychological health-care needs
of returning Canadians, Ontario government
officials are still grappling to determine how
many of them no longer have a home in this
country.
At this point, government officials do not
even know how many of the estimated 50,000
Canadians leaving Lebanon are from Ontario,
Rick Byun, a spokesman for the Ministry of
Citizenship and Culture, said last night.
He said the government will provide housing
and settlement services for those individuals
who don't have family in Canada or $150 to
stay at a hotel.

Do these Canadians living in lebanon and
not working with the embassy or for the
UN qualify for old age pensions if they have
never lived or worked in canada?
Why come here now and why complain.
They chose to live there didn't they?
