Drink spiking.

Bars SHOULD tightened security because
drink spiking is on the rise.
Some bartenders cannot be trusted.
Posters should be put up in bathrooms warning
customers not to leave their drinks unattended
or accept drinks from strangers.
Security and bar staff should be told to keep
an eye out for drink spiking.

One bartender offered this suggestion:
"If a guy buys a girl a drink we try to give the
drink straight to the girl.
Our staff keep an eye on glasses that are put
down and clear them if they are there too long."

Women have to bear some responsibility too
and take precautions.
Drink spiking is hard to prove.
Drug testing must be done within 72 hours,
Victims often fall unconscious and
remembered few details, potential witnesses
are often drunk and no one saw the person
who spiked the drink.
The vice-president of the Drug Rape Trust,
Jenny Fenton, said A legal drug
gammahydroxybutyrate, better known as GBH,
fantasy or liquid ecstasy, is the most likely
drug used.
It is tasteless and odourless and takes about
30 minutes to work.

for a pair of size-14 tennis shoes that suspect
Joran van der Sloot might have lost, a police official
said.
"He says he might have lost a pair of sneakers on
the beach the night Natalee disappeared," said lead
police investigator Roy Tromp. "That's what he
claims in one of his many statements."
Tromp said the 17-year-old suspect described the
shoes as white and blue and brand new.
"He claimed he lost them in the area of Fisherman's
Hut, but we [are] looking at other places, including
the pond," he said.

I remember my son and daughter's reaction and it

Survey results include:
Ninety per cent of teens surveyed believed they were
knowledgeable about sex
One in five knew gonorrhea or syphilis was transmitted
by oral sex.
Nineteen per cent had heard of HPV, or human papilloma
virus, which causes genital warts and is linked to
cervical cancer.
Fifty-six per cent of sexually active teen girls had not
had a Pap test in three years.

Teen says he left Ala. woman on beach

NEW YORK (AP) — A Dutch teenager questioned in the
disappearance of a young Alabama woman in Aruba
says he had planned to take her to his house to have
sex the night she was last seen, but instead left her
alone on a beach.
In an interview with ABC News' "Primetime" to air
Thursday, Joran van der Sloot, 18, says he did not
have sex with Natalee Holloway because they
didn't have a condom. He says they "cuddled for a
while" and he last saw her "sitting on the sand by
the ocean."
"I should have brought her back to her hotel or I
should have made sure I left her with someone,
one of her friends, but I just should have gotten her
back to where she should have been," he told ABC.
Holloway, 18, was last seen May 30 leaving a bar
with van der Sloot and Surinamese brothers
Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18.
No one has been charged in her disappearance.
In papers filed for a lawsuit in a Manhattan court
last week, Holloway's parents allege their
intoxicated daughter, who was on a graduation
trip with classmates, left a bar with van der Sloot
and the Kalpoe brothers at about 1:30 a.m.
Several of Holloway's friends saw her in a car
with the youths and asked her to get out, court
papers say, but she did not. The court papers go
on to allege she was sexually assaulted.
Van der Sloot and the Kalpoes were arrested
June 9 on suspicion of involvement in Holloway's
disappearance. Van der Sloot acknowledged he
was with Holloway but denied any wrongdoing.
All were released.

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre is
collecting money to help the hard-pressed family
of the young murder victim whose body was
found on the outskirts of the city
this month.
Fourteen-year-old Aielah Katherina Saric's remains
were found by the side of Highway 16 on Feb. 10, a
week after she went missing.

Morong says Saric's mother needs money to
take Aielah back to her home community in
Alberta for burial, and then to try to rebuild
her family's life.

CANADIAN KAYAKER MISSING IN GERMANY

German police recovered a baseball cap Tuesday they say
belongs to a missing Nova Scotia woman.
Tiffany Alexandria Tanner, 20, a Dartmouth native,
mysteriously disappeared Sunday morning while kayaking
in the city of Hamm, where she had been working as an
au pair for a year.
A passerby turned the black cap in to police.
The hat has "Canada" on it and a maple leaf.
Tanner's mother and stepfather arrived in Germany Tuesday
and helped authorities in their search.
There are reports Tanner was also spotted on a nearby
bridge, giving her family hope, but adding another strange
twist in the disappearance.
"There was a report that came from one of the authorities
on the water.
He virtually said she wasn't in the water,"
uncle Darrel Fraser told CTV Atlantic.
"It's a positive fact she made it to shore, which we thought
she would. Having said that, it opens some questions.
Where is she now?"
Searchers found Tanner's capsized kayak after her
kayaking partners told police they last saw her paddling
under a bridge in the Datteln-Hamm canal.
She never came out the other side.
Tanner is a member of Dartmouth's Senobe Aquatic Club
in Dartmouth and has been paddling competitively for a
long time. S
he wasn't wearing a life-jacket Sunday, but should have
been able to swim back to the nearby shore if she had
fallen out, her family said.
Divers have not recovered anything from the water in
three days of searching.
Police aren't ruling out any scenarios, and have
suggested Tanner may have been kidnapped.

A Dartmouth couple has gone to Germany to
look for their missing daughter.
Tiffany Tanner, 20, disappeared Sunday during kayak
practice in Hamm, where she has been working for the
past year.
She was trailing behind her three kayaking partners as
they made their way back to the boathouse.
She went under a bridge, then vanished.
Tanner was not wearing a life-jacket.
Her overturned kayak was found near shore. However,
a search turned up no sign of the experienced paddler.
"She knows how to take care of herself in the water.
I'm hopeful that she got out of the boat and went to shore.
Maybe she got lost," Lisa Tanner, Tiffany's mother,
told the Canadian Press Monday.
German police say they're looking into all scenarios,
including kidnapping.

Seventy-six First Nations communities remain under
an advisory to boil drinking water, according to new
information from Health Canada.
That's despite the fact the federal Department of Indian
and Northern Affairs has spent almost $2 billion to
upgrade systems in the past five years.
Whose pockets has this money lined?
CBC News filed access-to-information requests to
obtain water audits on reserves in 2001, and
compared that data with current information.
Among the findings:
Drinking water in two-thirds of First Nations communities
remains "at risk," compared to three-quarters of all
such communities in 2001.
Sixty-two per cent of water-system operators serving
native communities aren't properly certified.
Seventy-six reserves are still under boil-water
advisories and have been in that position for years.
People have to rely on bottled water for drinking,
cooking and brushing their teeth, and some
residents say the water is too dirty even for bathing.

There are still no laws or regulatory standards similar
to those in non-native communities, when it comes
to drinking water for the about 325,000 residents
of Canada's First Nations reserves, Gelinas,
who works in the auditor general's office, pointed out.

Bernardo confesses to more sex assaults

Convicted sex killer Paul Bernardo confessed last fall
to at least 10 more sexual assaults, his lawyer says.
Tony Bryant says Bernardo made the admissions in a
letter he gave to Bryant last October, and that Bryant
turned the letter over to police in November.
Bryant said Bernardo didn't tell him why he was
admitting to the crimes so many years after the fact.
However, he noted that the admissions were made as
debate was raging about the release from prison of
Karla Homolka, his ex-wife and co-defendant.
"Given all the resurgence of interest with Karla's release
from prison, that may have been the trigger," Bryant said.
"I can't say for certain, but that's what was the impetus
behind all of this."
Homolka spent 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to
manslaughter in the abduction and killings of teenagers
Kristin French and Leslie Mahaffy.
She was released in July 2005 after serving her full
sentence.
As part of her controversial plea bargain, Homolka
testified against her former husband.
She also told police that Bernardo had claimed to have
sexually assaulted as many as 30 women.
Bernardo was sentenced in 1995 to life in prison for
the French and Mahaffy killings.
After his trial, he confessed to 14 additional sexual assaults.
He was also declared a dangerous offender, meaning
he will be kept in prison indefinitely.

One of Canada's notorious killers is in the news again.
He most likely felt left out of the uproar over his
ex-wife's famous recent prison release.
She is being watched and has been reported to have
applied for a passport.
Hopefully their days of fame are over.
This is one case that IMHO deserved the death penalty.

Former glam rocker Gary Glitter will stand trial next
month in Vietnam, where he is charged with
committing obscene acts with underage girls.
Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, found fame
as a glam rocker in the 1970s with songs such as
Do You Wanna Touch Me and Rock and Roll.
He was formally charged on Jan. 6 with engaging
in obscene acts with two girls aged 10 and 11 in
the town of Vung Tau
(50 kilometres east of Ho Chi Minh City), where
the 61-year-old had a rental home.
If found guilty, Glitter could be sentenced to between
three and seven years in prison.
Glitter has denied allegations he molested the girls
and said he was helping them with their English.

Iran, Pope call for end to cartoon violence

A top Iranian government official and the Pope have
called for an end to violent protests against cartoons
depicting the Prophet Muhammad, as Danish leaders
condemned a $1-million bounty on the cartoonists.

Iran does not support violence,
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Monday.
"We should try to cool down the situation," Mottaki said
at a news conference in Brussels.
In the past three weeks, at least 45 people have died
worldwide in violent protests against the Danish
cartoons, reaction resulting from the fact some
Muslims reject any depiction of the Prophet as
blasphemous.
The Pope, also calling for calm, said religions
must be respected but that violent responses to
perceived offences are wrong.
"Intolerance and violence can never be justified as
a response to any offence, because it is a response
that is incompatible with the sacred principles of
religion," said Pope Benedict XVI.
Denmark condemns bounty
Denmark, meanwhile, has condemned the reward
offer by a Pakistani cleric for the death of any of
the 12 Danish cartoonists.
"It's murder and murder is also forbidden by
the Qur'an," said
Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller.
"Islam is also a religion of peace, mercy and
forgiveness. That is why it is my opinion, but also
the opinion of many Muslims, this is un-Islamic."
Maulana Yousef Qureshi compared his reward
offered on Friday to the $25-million bounty that the
United States has placed on al-Qaeda's leader,
Osama bin Laden. Qureshi offered $8,400 US, while
two people in his congregation added $1 million US,
plus a car.
All 12 cartoonists have been under police protection
for a month.
Demonstrations continued in Pakistan and
Afghanistan on Monday after a weekend of deadly
riots in Nigeria and Libya.

Hundreds of Afghan students shouted remarks
like "Death to Denmark" and "Death to America" at
a largely peaceful demonstration in Jalalabad, while
Pakistani Muslim leaders vowed to widen their
anti-cartoon campaign.
Pakistani leaders have planned a countrywide
protest for Friday and a nationwide general strike
for March 3, which could coincide with a visit by
U.S. President George W. Bush.

About 2,500 people rallied outside Ontario's legislature in
Toronto on Sunday, in protest over the publication of
editorial cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.
The protest and another held in Vancouver were among
a number of demonstrations held on Sunday by Muslims
in various countries in the continued controversy over the
caricatures. The protesters in Toronto demonstrated for
several hours despite temperatures that peaked at –7 C,
which felt like –15 C with the wind factored in.
They called for more respect for Islam and
demanded an end to the publication of the
images. Islamic tradition bars any depiction
of the Prophet, favorable or otherwise, to
prevent idolatry.
